Things to Do

As Pattaya has grown into one of SE Asia’s most visited destinations, it has become a virtual playground of activities for all ages.

Things to do

There are countless dining opportunities from cheap and cheerful to the ultra-luxurious, shopping is excellent, there are local cultural shows, outdoor excursions and sports on water, land and the beach in between, fantastic golfing, social activities, legendary nightlife and more. Whatever your lifestyle choices, there is no reason to ever be bored in Pattaya.

Below is just a small list of the numerous possibilities Pattaya offers -- 365 days per year.

Fitness and Land Sports

Scuba Diving / Snorkelling

Boating/Yachting, Game Fishing

As you might expect living next to a sparkling tropical sea, water sports opportunities are countless in Pattaya and can be enjoyed all year round.

Things to do

Among the choices within a few minutes’ drive of your home are waterskiing, parasailing, windsurfing, dinghy sailing (with Hobie Cats and Lasers being the craft of choice), all available at Jomtien Beach, or many of the major hotel private beaches.

Things to do

Equipment and instruction is available, and safety standards are generally very high. It is also easy and inexpensive to rent, charter or join a tour on larger pleasure boats for a relaxing day or more out on the open waves, exploring the nearby islands of the Gulf of Thailand.

Also for hire are dedicated fishing boats with expert captains who know where the fish are hiding -- or join one of the organised expeditions heading out daily. There are some big fish out there, including sail fish, queen fish, barracuda, marlin, king mackerel, several species of shark, sting rays and more, that will give you an exciting rod-bending workout.

Things to do

Freshwater fishing in Pattaya is also very good, with local stocked lakes with giant Mekong catfish and huge carp up to 100kg.

Scuba Diving / Snorkelling

There are some amazing sights hiding below the surface of the Gulf of Thailand and whether you are a seasoned diver or just starting out, Pattaya can accommodate you, with several PADI certified schools and daily expeditions for diving and snorkelling -- from paddling about a shallow reef close to the beach of an offshore island or exploring nearby wrecks further afield.

For those who don’ t want to get their feet wet, but don’t want to miss out, there are glass bottomed boats that give you a squid’s eye view of the coral reefs surrounding offshore islands and their vibrant and colourful life.

There is the Vimantaitalay tourist submarine, a large and unique underwater craft that heads out several times daily.

Fitness and Land sports

There are plenty of sporting activities in Pattaya to ensure a healthy and active lifestyle. Warm weather year round means that your tennis game never gets a chance to get rusty, and if the heat gets a bit much, there are plenty of air-conditioned gyms where you can get your cardio workout and keep your muscles toned.

Alongside the countless hotel gym facilities, international member gyms are popping up around town, including California Wow Fitness Center and Gold’s Gym with the full complement of machines, or for a more natural approach there is the Pattaya Fitness Park with a running track and exercise stations.

Things to do

Closer to home, you can jog around the winding lanes of the Siam Royal View Estate and finish up with a swim in your private pool or the large community one. If you really want to show your stuff, you can join the very popular Pattaya Marathon every July and there is also a weekly Hash House Harriers run.

Several major hotels have tennis courts and professional coaches are available for lessons at many of them. There are also opportunities to join local amateur tournaments. Some area hotels also have squash courts available to the general public. Badminton is very popular in Asia and there are many places to play -- mostly outdoors -- as well as some excellent opponents.

Things to do

The city is host to the international tennis championship tournament -- the women’s international championship competition is held in Pattaya every year. (the international men’s competition is in Bangkok, just 1.5 hours away).

Multiple disciplines of martial arts can be studied in Pattaya with the big emphasis on the world famous (and brutal) Muay Thai, or Thai kickboxing with several clubs and camps.

For those who like to move a little faster, there is horseback riding in a few locations around Pattaya with private lessons and horses ranging from tame to skittish and styles from dressage to trail riding.

Things to do

For those who want to go even faster than that, there are motorsports focused mainly on the Bira racetrack with Formula Renault, Moto GP training and track days. Or you can rent one of countless bikes of all shapes and sizes around town and head off on your own or on a guided tour.

Things to do

Go-karting with karts for beginners to competitors are available at the Bira racing circuit and a number of other kart tracks close to town. Frustrated warriors can get together on the paintball field at any of a number of dedicated locations. If you prefer real bullets, there are a couple of shooting clubs nearby, though you will have to confine yourself to inanimate targets. Same goes for the Pattaya Archery Club.

Things to do

There are so many sports and other opportunities to be active in and around Pattaya that they are too many to list all of them here.
